#412 – Men in Black

It was so good to watch this again! Unfortunately II and III aren’t on the list but I think I’ll watch them soon anyway, such an awesome trilogy.

I really can’t think of much to say about it though. Men dress up in suits and fight aliens. That’s pretty much the gist of it. I can’t even say anything bad.
It is a given that Will Smith makes this movie. Without him it probably would get dropped down a few notches, I really enjoy him and wish he would be my friend. Jada, you are one lucky lady!

If it’s been a while since you’ve seen it… dig it out! Or download it. Whichever.

# 415 – Heathers

So it’s the 80’s and Veronica (a very young Winona Ryder) is one part of the most popular foursome at school, The Heathers.
Heather, Heather and Heather make up the rest of the gang, obviously.
Veronica doesn’t quite fit in though, and she pretty much hates her best friends. She soon meets crazy JD (Christian Slater) and she unwillingly turns into a murderer.

I was surprisingly entertained! A comic thriller at it’s best.
It’s quite dark actually, and was very controversial when it was released. Teen suicide and characters trying to blow up a school are issues bound to create a little controversy.

Now.. apparently this is the movie where The Veronicas found their name…
JD – “Are you a Heather”
Veronica – “No, I’m a Veronica.”

Definitely put this on your ‘to watch’ list.

# 414 – Spider-Man 2

I’ll keep this one pretty simple because a) everyone’s seen spider man and b) it’s pretty crappy. Nope, not a huge fan. I mean who likes spiders anyway?
My nephew would probably disagree with me (or at least he would have 10 years ago when he was like 3 years old) he thought spider man was the bomb and asked his mum when he would get webs coming out of his wrists.

No other spider man movie appears on the big list so this one must have been special. The good/bad guy Octavius is quite a remarkable villain and of course the effects are pretty great. I just can’t seem to love any of the characters, except for Harry, and he’s hardly in it. Even sweet old Aunt May annoys the shit out of me.

Buuuuttt.. it’s spiderman, kind of like a rite of passage when becoming a superhero movie fan (I don’t pretend to have ever read the comic books, I had a life).

I will leave you with one of the only quotes worth your time in the Spiderman series…

“With great power….” Kidding.

“I believe there’s a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble. And finally gets us to die with pride. Even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most, even our dreams.”
Aww Aunt May! So wise.

# 410 – The Jungle Book (1967)

The Jungle Book (1967)

Now… don’t judge me. Today may have been the first time I’ve seen this. Not counting the little glimpses I’ve caught over the years babysitting. I was more of a Lion King, Tarzan, Aladdin kinda kid. Aaaand I still am.

I mean this movie was great! Such a beautiful story, but it doesn’t really jump out at me or move me in any way like the others do.

Sad backstory, this was the last animation Disney movie to be looked over by the main man, Walt. He died in 1966 during the making of it.

With the recent release of The Jungle Book remake, it might be time to get the kids together and show them the original. They’re sure to be amazed at the difference in graphics!

Enjoy 🙂
