# 430 – Big Trouble in Little China

btlc

I have got to look into these movies before I watch them! Yet again, I had this one all wrong.

It is a must watch, honestly, it’s great… in a ridiculous, over the top, total nonsense kind of way. Very entertaining and funny. It’s almost like it’s taking the piss the entire way through.

Directed by John Carpenter (he’s a big deal, done lots of stuff, look him up) it has this ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘Ghostbusters’ kind of feel to it. Damsel in distress, cocky typical American guy and the weird old magic Asian just come together to make a fun movie with terribly awesome costume designs and one liners.

Here’s a spot of trivia for you gaming nerds:
Apparently Raidens’ (Mortal Kombat) appearance is taken from the lightning character in BTLC.. don’t hold me to that, it’s just what I’ve read.
WoW players may know what the Six Demon Bag is, a trinket with which the tooltip says “Blast enemies with the power of wind, fire, that kind of thing!”… a direct quote from one of the characters about his six demon bag.

So there you have it, fun for the whole family!! Get watching 🙂

# 422 – Jerry Maguire

JM

I feel like Jerry Maguire is one of those movies people my age always here about but have never actually seen; being released when we were too young to watch, but such a big hit that everyone talks about it.

To be honest, I think it’s popular for only three reasons:
“You complete me.”
“You had me at hello.”
Surely you seen this one coming… “SHOW ME THE MONEY!!”

Those lines are referenced ev-er-y-where. If you haven’t heard at least one, you must live under a rock. In a very deep hole.

I legit knew two things about this movie before I watched: Tom Cruise and ‘show me the money’, which led me to believe it was about some hostage situation. It’s not.

Moving on, it’s not a bad show, I was just expecting more because it’s so widely talked about. It’s a sweet love story with loveable characters and the best little kid that just makes you want to squeeze him. It’s more rom-com than anything else.

I’d recommend watching it just because it’s, like, a part of your duty as a movie-lover.
