I had no idea what to expect with this, I haven’t seen the newer versions so I assumed it was more of a comedy than anything. That changed after about 15 minutes in when a guy was quite brutally shot over 50 times by a malfunctioning robot. From then on the only comedic parts were purely related to a 1980’s style script and the CGI. I found it particularly hilarious when the aforementioned robot roared like a lion when in pursuit and squealed like a pig when it fell down the stairs.
Overall, it wasn’t bad. Plenty of action and appropriately gory where needed, that was what I respected the most actually, they didn’t shy away from a gunshot wound or a man’s skin being eaten by toxic waste! It created enough interest for me to want to watch the sequels so that’s how I know my time wasn’t wasted on this one.
