# 423 – Lethal Weapon

lethal-weapon.jpg

Do you really wanna jump? Do you wanna?

Yes, you do! Jump straight into the Lethal Weapon franchise. The first instalment is the only one that makes the list though so if you hate it don’t feel forced into watching the others.

You know I don’t like ‘reviewing’ the classics – I’m just a noob recording what movies I watch from some dumb list, I don’t have the skills of a real reviewer. Just know that it is actually awesome, I love it, and you should watch it! One of my favourite parts is at the end when all the cops just stand around and watch the good guy V the bad guy in a fist fight because he deserved it. HAHA, so great.

Oh, and how’s this for a headspin – according to IMDB, Bruce Willis was considered to play the role of Riggs but he turned it down, he got his role in Die Hard after Mel turned that down! Crazy stuff.

Enjoy

# 430 – Big Trouble in Little China

btlc

I have got to look into these movies before I watch them! Yet again, I had this one all wrong.

It is a must watch, honestly, it’s great… in a ridiculous, over the top, total nonsense kind of way. Very entertaining and funny. It’s almost like it’s taking the piss the entire way through.

Directed by John Carpenter (he’s a big deal, done lots of stuff, look him up) it has this ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘Ghostbusters’ kind of feel to it. Damsel in distress, cocky typical American guy and the weird old magic Asian just come together to make a fun movie with terribly awesome costume designs and one liners.

Here’s a spot of trivia for you gaming nerds:
Apparently Raidens’ (Mortal Kombat) appearance is taken from the lightning character in BTLC.. don’t hold me to that, it’s just what I’ve read.
WoW players may know what the Six Demon Bag is, a trinket with which the tooltip says “Blast enemies with the power of wind, fire, that kind of thing!”… a direct quote from one of the characters about his six demon bag.

So there you have it, fun for the whole family!! Get watching 🙂

# 422 – Jerry Maguire

JM

I feel like Jerry Maguire is one of those movies people my age always here about but have never actually seen; being released when we were too young to watch, but such a big hit that everyone talks about it.

To be honest, I think it’s popular for only three reasons:
“You complete me.”
“You had me at hello.”
Surely you seen this one coming… “SHOW ME THE MONEY!!”

Those lines are referenced ev-er-y-where. If you haven’t heard at least one, you must live under a rock. In a very deep hole.

I legit knew two things about this movie before I watched: Tom Cruise and ‘show me the money’, which led me to believe it was about some hostage situation. It’s not.

Moving on, it’s not a bad show, I was just expecting more because it’s so widely talked about. It’s a sweet love story with loveable characters and the best little kid that just makes you want to squeeze him. It’s more rom-com than anything else.

I’d recommend watching it just because it’s, like, a part of your duty as a movie-lover.

#412 – Men in Black

men-in-black-ii-5047387b8d6de

It was so good to watch this again! Unfortunately II and III aren’t on the list but I think I’ll watch them soon anyway, such an awesome trilogy.

I really can’t think of much to say about it though. Men dress up in suits and fight aliens. That’s pretty much the gist of it. I can’t even say anything bad.
It is a given that Will Smith makes this movie. Without him it probably would get dropped down a few notches, I really enjoy him and wish he would be my friend. Jada, you are one lucky lady!

If it’s been a while since you’ve seen it… dig it out! Or download it. Whichever.

# 415 – Heathers

heathers

So it’s the 80’s and Veronica (a very young Winona Ryder) is one part of the most popular foursome at school, The Heathers.
Heather, Heather and Heather make up the rest of the gang, obviously.
Veronica doesn’t quite fit in though, and she pretty much hates her best friends. She soon meets crazy JD (Christian Slater) and she unwillingly turns into a murderer.

I was surprisingly entertained! A comic thriller at it’s best.
It’s quite dark actually, and was very controversial when it was released. Teen suicide and characters trying to blow up a school are issues bound to create a little controversy.

Now.. apparently this is the movie where The Veronicas found their name…
JD – “Are you a Heather”
Veronica – “No, I’m a Veronica.”

Definitely put this on your ‘to watch’ list.

# 416 – Finding Nemo

cp_FWB_FindingNemo_20120926Just Keep Swimming

Almost perfect timing with Finding Dory coming out in a few months!

Nemo is one of my favourite kids movies. It is actually hilarious. I remember very vividly, watching for the first time, not being able to stop laughing when Dory starts speaking whale. Not much changed this time around.

I started planning my blog about 5 minutes in, I thought it might be nice to have a little list of my favourite lines. But then it might just be easier to post the entire script.
Ellen DeGeneres makes Dory, literally! Dory was written specifically for Ellen and she’s one of the best characters of all time.
And it wouldn’t quite be a Disney movie without the lessons! Nemo is full of valuable things to learn, for all the family!

Nice work Pixar. Can’t wait for Dory to get lost so we can find her and experience the fun all over again.

Go grab the kids and have a family day in with Nemo! Look out for the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story while you’re at it 😉

# 417 – The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert

p1

If you’ve been reading, you may remember me mentioning this movie in my ‘Wake In Fright’ review… Both filmed right here in my hometown, Broken Hill!
Well not all of it, unfortunately.
Small towns really have a way of never getting over monumental moments in their history, like Priscilla. Why would they? It’s a pride thing. I grew up knowing how important Priscilla is to Broken Hill but never watched it due to my age. So imagine my disappointment when I finally watched Priscilla and found out Broken Hill took up about 20 minutes of the whole movie. Sad face.

Truth be told, I didn’t watch this recently. A few months back Broken Hill put on an event ‘Broken Heel Festival’ to celebrate Priscilla’s 21st birthday. It was an amazing weekend long event that pushed me to finally watch it.

It was very entertaining, funny listening to the guys bitch and whinge at each other. They have some hilarious one liners, sometimes I understood them.. sometimes I didn’t. It does have its moments though, where the harsh reality of being a drag queen or transgender comes into play, which just makes it all the more loveable.

Most importantly, Priscilla put Australia on the map in a very new way and showed the world a positive view on the LGBT community, which was well overdue. Let’s hope to see more of it.

Enjoy!

P.S
Guy Pearce is sexy. Always. Good guy, bad guy, drag queen, doesn’t matter.
